EDUCATION & TRAINING (TEACHER EDUCATION) ACCTC

Teaching as a Profession is designed for students interested in becoming an educator, school counselor, trainer, librarian, speech-language pathologist, school psychiatrist, or teacher’s aide. In this program of study course content covers the history of education in the United States, the components of instruction, teaching strategies, types of assessments, student learning, special populations, educational technology, classroom management, lesson planning, and professionalism.

 

TEACHING AS A PROFESSION I (ACCTC) - Single Block; One Semester; One Credit; Designed for 9th – 10th grades, but open to 11th – 12th  grades; Prerequisites: none.
Teaching as a Profession I is a foundational course in the Teaching as a Profession program of study for students interested in learning more about becoming a teacher, school counselor, trainer, librarian, speech-language pathologist, school psychiatrist, or teacher’s aide. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will gain knowledge in the history of education in the United States, careers in education, and the influence of human development on educational theory and learning.


TEACHING AS A PROFESSION II (ACCTC) – Single Block; One Semester; One Credit; 10th – 12th  grades; Prerequisite: Teaching as a Profession I (Fundamentals of Education).
Teaching as a Profession II is an intermediate course for students interested in learning more about becoming a teacher, school counselor, trainer, librarian, or speech-language pathologist. Students will conduct observations of various educators during this program. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will have a better understanding of the instructional strategies needed for becoming an educator, as well as knowledge of types of assessments, student learning, special populations, and educational technology.

 

TEACHING AS A PROFESSION III (ACCTC) – Single Block; One Semester; One Credit; 11th  –  12th  grades; Prerequisites: Teaching as a Profession I and II.
Teaching as a Profession III is an advanced course. Students will conduct observations of various educators during this program. Upon completion of this course, proficient students will have a higher understanding of classroom management, concepts of higher order thinking, differentiated instruction, and strategies for effective classroom planning making them ready to further their studies at the post-secondary level.
